When you book a creator on Creator Scout, your package may include content rights that let you use that content beyond the initial post. Each right type has a defined scope and duration — here’s exactly what they mean.
What are Ad Rights?
Ad Rights give you permission to use a creator’s content in paid advertising campaigns — like Meta ads, Google Display, YouTube pre-rolls, or similar paid placements. The duration is set by the creator in their package (for example, 3 months or 6 months).
Once the ad rights period ends, you must stop running ads using that content. Running ads after the rights expire — even if the ads were live before expiry — is not covered.
What are Usage Rights?
Usage Rights let you repurpose a creator’s content for non-paid channels — your website, email newsletters, organic social posts, pitch decks, and similar uses. Like ad rights, they have a set duration after which you no longer have permission to use the content in those ways.
Usage Rights do not cover paid advertising. If you want to run paid ads using the content, you need Ad Rights separately (or a Full Buyout).
What is an Exclusivity Period?
When a creator agrees to an exclusivity period in a specific category (for example, “fitness supplements”), they commit to not taking paid partnerships with your direct competitors during that window.
- Exclusivity starts from the date the order is accepted — not when it’s completed.
- It only covers paid brand partnerships in the agreed category. The creator can still post organic content and work with non-competing brands freely.
- The category is defined in the package. For example, “fitness supplements” would cover direct-to-consumer supplement brands but not a fitness equipment brand.
When do rights start and end?
- Ad Rights and Usage Rights start on the date your order is marked as completed (content approved and delivered). The end date is calculated from that date based on the duration in the package.
- Exclusivity starts from the date the creator accepts your order — not when it’s completed — since the commitment begins as soon as they agree to work with you.
- You will receive email reminders 7 days before any right expires, and again on the day it expires.
- Rights are tracked in your Orders dashboard on each completed order. Creators can see all their granted rights and expiry dates in their Rights Library.
What happens when rights expire?
You must stop using the content in any way covered by the expired right. Both you and the creator are notified by email and in-app notification on the day of expiry.
If you want to continue using the content after rights expire, you need to contact the creator to place a renewal order. There is no automatic renewal.
Where can I see my active rights?
Brands: Your active rights are shown on each completed order in your Orders dashboard. You’ll see the right type, expiry date, and a live countdown.
Creators: You can see all rights granted, their current status (active, expiring soon, or expired), and expiry dates in your Rights Library — accessible from your dashboard under Dashboard → Rights.
Can rights be renewed?
Yes. Creators can send a renewal request from their Rights Library when a right is expiring soon or has already expired. The brand receives an in-app notification and email when a request is sent.
To renew, work with the creator to place a new order with the relevant rights included. Renewal is not automatic and is not guaranteed — it requires a new agreement between you and the creator.
