What is a good engagement rate for Instagram influencers in India?

For Indian Instagram influencers, a good engagement rate is 5–10% for nano influencers (1K–10K followers), 3–6% for micro influencers (10K–100K), and 1–3% for macro influencers (100K+). Rates above 6% are exceptional regardless of audience size.

How is engagement rate calculated?

The standard formula is: (Avg Likes + Avg Comments) ÷ Followers × 100. Some marketers also include saves and shares. Brands compare your engagement rate against platform benchmarks when setting collaboration pricing.

What engagement rate do brands look for in Indian influencers?

Most Indian brands look for a minimum of 2–3% for macro influencers and 4–6% for micro and nano influencers. A high follower count with engagement below 1% is a red flag for purchased followers.

Why does engagement rate drop as follower count increases?

As an account grows, the algorithm shows content to a smaller percentage of followers per post. Larger audiences are also more passive. This is why nano and micro influencers typically have higher engagement rates — making them more cost-effective for many brands.

Should I include Reels views in my engagement rate?

Views alone are not included in standard engagement rate calculations because they are passive. For Reels, some brands calculate (Likes + Comments) ÷ Views × 100 separately. A Reels engagement rate above 5% of views is considered strong.
